Marian men’s lacrosse held off by Beloit

Marian University men’s lacrosse (0-7, 0-5 NACC) cut the deficit to three in the fourth, but fell to Beloit 8-3.

  • The Buccaneers struck first, with Rilan Larmore scoring 90 seconds into the game.
  • Beloit capitalized on Marian’s penalties with back-to-back man-up goals to take a 3-0 lead in the second.
  • Marian responded 45 seconds later as sophomore Benett Luke scored to get the Sabres on the board. 
  • Neither team added to the score in the final 12 minutes, leaving Beloit with a 3-1 lead at halftime.
  • The Buccaneers extended their lead to four with two unanswered goals in the third. They limited the Sabres to just one shot on goal in the quarter. 
  • Senior Devon Butler scored for the second straight game, cutting the Sabres’ deficit to three at 13:31 in the fourth. Butler has already outscored his total from the previous three seasons combined. 
  • After two more Beloit goals, Luke scored his second of the game on an assist from Butler. 
  • A final goal by Beloit in the closing minutes cemented their 8-3 victory.

Senior Jackson Sweeney (0-7) made 14 saves, posting a .636 save percentage in net.
