Marian men’s lacrosse defeats Clarke for first win

Marian University men’s lacrosse (1-2, 0-0 NACC) won a defensive battle defeating Clarke 6-5 for its first win of the season.

  • Marian was able to have a strong start scoring with 4:42 and 36 seconds left in the opening stanza.
  • Clarke had the lone score of the second period to put the Sabres ahead 2-1 at halftime.
  • The Pride were able to tie the game 4:15 into the second half only for senior Serge Simard to put Marian ahead 3-2 going into the final quarter.
  • Simard scored the first two Marian goals of the final quarter with a Pride score sandwiched between to put Marian ahead 5-3.
  • After Clarke cut their deficit to one for a second time, senior Trevor Stachowski found the back of the net with a man-up goal with 2:45 remaining to extend the Marian lead to 6-4.
  • A late man-up goal from the Pride with 1:04 left cut the Sabre lead to one but Marian was able to hold off the late push.

  • Clarke finished with a 49-25 edge for shots and a 40-28 advantage for ground balls.
  • The Sabres were only 27-for-45 (.600) on clear attempts.
  • Each team had one man-up goal with the Sabres having four chances and Clarke six.
  • This was the first meeting between the two programs.

Junior Jackson Sweeney (1-2) had 20 saves, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
Senior Serge Simard finished with three goals and two assists.
Sophomore Jayden Gerhardt caused three turnovers and had just as many ground balls.
