Marian men’s lacrosse cruises past Spalding

Marian University men’s lacrosse (1-2, 0-0 NACC) defeated Spalding 20-3 in its first home game of the season.

  • The two squads traded goals to open the game but Marian would score the final four goals of the quarter to lead 5-1.
  • Junior Serge Simard had three goals and an assist in the opening stanza.
  • The Sabres then posted a shutout in the second quarter outscoring Spalding 4-0.
  • Senior Erik Horman had a goal, which was assisted by sophomore Jackson Sweeny, and two assists.
  • This gave Marian a 9-1 advantage going into the second half.
  • The Sabres kept on rolling to open the third scoring the first seven goals of the quarter.
  • Marian had the first six goals come in the first 7:15 of the period with two being man-up goals.
  • A pair of goals from Simard, one from Horman, and a final goal from sophomore Devon Butler in the fourth quarter sealed the 20-3 victory.

  • Marian finished with a 58-19 advantage in shots and 50-34 edge in ground balls.
  • The Sabres had their best game in terms of face offs with 15 wins to only 11 for Spalding.
  • The Marian special teams played with as the Sabres were 2-for-3 with a man-up and held Spalding to zero goals on their seven man-up opportunities.
