Marian men’s hoops continues tough non-conference with No. 21 Elmhurst

Marian University men’s basketball (0-7, 0-3 NACC) only trailed by three at halftime but fell to No. 21 Elmhurst 88-65.

  • Marian jumped out to an early 8-5 lead only to have Elmhurst score 11 unanswered to go ahead 16-8.
  • The Blue Jays built its lead to as large as eight at 25-17 before Marian used an 11-4 spurt to only trail one.
  • The Sabres would retake the lead with 1:01 left to play at 37-36 when senior Eli Vogel hit a three-pointer.
  • Elmhurst quickly took the lead back and took a 40-37 lead into halftime scoring the final four points of the half.
  • The Blue Jays had a quick start to the second half using a 24-6 run over the first 10:04 to lead 64-43.
  • Elmhurst built its lead to as large as 27 before Marian finished the final 3:21 with a 12-8 spurt to put the final at 88-65.

  • Marian had a solid first half going 13-of-28 (.464) from the field and 8-of-17 (.471) on three-pointers.
  • The Sabres finished the game going 24-of-57 (.421) shooting and 13-of-32 (.406) on three-pointers.
  • Elmhurst had 17 field goals in each half finishing the game 34-of-52 (.654) and 11-of-23 (.478) from beyond the arc.
  • The Blue Jays dominated the rebounding battle 36-17 and outscored Marian 34-18 in the paint.
  • The Sabre defense was able to create 13 turnovers.
  • Marian remains winless in six games all-time against Elmhurst.
