Marian men’s bowling has strong showing at Leatherneck Classic

Marian University men’s bowling finished in fourth at a highly-competitive Leatherneck Classic.

  • Marian began the event in second place after recording 5,303 pins in traditional action.
  • The Sabres trailed only Wichita State by 33 pins and had four student-athletes average more than 200 pins.
  • After Baker play, Marian had qualified as the No. 4 seed for bracket play with 8,377 pins.
  • The Sabres were one of 10 schools with more than 8,000 pins.
  • Marian had a tough time getting things going in bracket play and were eliminated by Calumet College.
  • Calumet went on to finish runner-up for the event after falling to No. 7 seed Newman in the championship match.
  • A varsity-reserve squad for Marian finished 21st with 7,241 total pins.

Jaysen Spanbauer finished atop the individual leaderboard with a 238.0 average.  He had four games with at least 228 pins.
Kody Litzen earned a 25th-place finish with an average of 213.4.  He had a high game of 230.
Bryson Randol led the Marian varsity-reserve team finishing 46th with a 204.2 average.
