Marian men’s basketball drops weekend finale to Bethany Lutheran

Marian University men’s basketball (0-3, 0-0 NACC) dropped its final game of the weekend 85-67 against Bethany Lutheran.

  • Marian jumped out to an early 5-4 lead only to see BLC use a 9-1 run to go ahead 13-5.
  • The Sabres chipped away at its deficit and only trailed 25-22 with 4:49 left in the half.
  • The Vikings pulled away in the final minutes going on a 17-6 spurt to take a 42-28 lead into halftime.
  • Marian took control in the opening minutes of the second half cutting its deficit down to 52-42.
  • A quick 12-2 run from the Vikings, however, saw BLC extend its lead out to 64-44 with 12:17 to play.
  • Bethany Lutheran was able to maintain this advantage for the remainder of the game.

  • Bethany Lutheran shot 29-of-55 (.527) from the field and 10-of-24 (.417) from beyond the arc.  Marian would finish 25-of-62 (.403) shooting and 7-of-24 (.292) on three-pointers.
  • Marian won the turnover battle forcing 19 Viking turnovers which turned into 27 points off turnovers.
  • Points in the paint were in favor of BLC by a 38-28 margin.
  • Marian was only outscored 43-39 in the second stanza.
  • This was the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Junior JeanLuc Wilson led the Sabres with 20 points and grabbed seven boards.
Senior Tavaris McCullough added 12 points off of the bench and had three assists.
Junior Marcell Drone scored six points with four boards and two steals.
