Senior Alex Vassilakis grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, but Marian University men’s basketball (1-2, 0-0 NACC) lost a neutral-site barn burner with Augsburg, 70-66.
 

• The Sabres started out hot, connecting on five of their first eight attempts to take an early 11-2 lead. 
• Marian extended the lead to double figures following a jumper from senior Derek Lindert at 13:00.
• After switching to a zone defense, Augsburg was able to find some life. The Auggies slowly chipped at the deficit, eventually taking their first lead off a three-pointer at 2:18.
• The Sabres quickly responded with a three of their own by senior Alex Vassilakis, who finished with 11 points and five rebounds at the half.
• Marian went into the break up three, 33-30.
• Lindert opened the second half by scoring the first five Sabre points, but saw their lead slip away after three scoreless minutes.
• A fastbreak steal-and-score from senior Jazz Orozco helped the Sabres recapture the lead, but it was short-lived. 
• From 10:46 to 10:08, the teams traded leads three times. Junior Andrew Ayeni was instrumental in keeping the Sabres alive, recording eight of his 12 points in the second half, including a layup at 10:20. 
• Following an Augsburg three-pointer at 6:55, the Auggies were able to hold onto a lead. An Ayeni free-throw cut the lead to two with 2:58 remaining, but the Auggies maintained control.
• Junior Rashawn Bost hit his third three-pointer with six seconds remaining to cut the lead to three. A missed free throw gave the Sabres an opportunity for a last-second heave, but it was off the mark and the Auggies escaped with the win. 

• The Sabres had a strong showing in the paint, scoring 36 points to outperform the Auggies 28. 
• There were 11 lead changes throughout the contest, including 7 in the second half. 
• Marian struggled from the free-throw line, shooting 8-for-15 (.533). The Sabres shot eleven fewer free-throws than Augsburg, who were 18-for-26 (.692).
• The Sabres out-rebounded the Auggies, 44-27, and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds, leading to 14 second chance points.
• Augsburg’s bench outscored the Sabres, 30-14, including 18 second-half points.
• This was the first match-up all-time between the Auggies and the Sabres.

	Senior Alex Vassilakis notched his third career double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
	Senior transfer Derek Lindert produced his best game as a Sabre, finishing with 16 points and six rebounds.
