Marian University men’s basketball (1-0, 0-0 NACC) opened its season with a 68-67 victory over UW-Superior.
- Marian had a strong start opening the game with an 11-4 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets erased that deficit and took a 19-13 lead after a 15-2 spurt.
- That would be the largest lead for UWS as Marian ended the half with a quick 8-2 run to lead 33-30 at the break.
- The two squads went back-and-forth with UWS holding a 55-52 lead with 7:59 to play.
- Marian then took the lead for good after scoring 10 unanswered points.
- The Sabre lead was cut down to one with 10 seconds remaining but Marian was able to force a turnover with three seconds on the clock to seal the win.
- Marian was 27-of-60 (.450) from the field and 7-of-18 (.389) from the arc.
- UW-Superior finished 27-for-65 (.415) from the field and 11-of-26 (.423) on triples.
- The Sabres forced 15 turnovers and outscored UWS 27-12 in points off turnovers.
- The Yellow Jacket benched scored 41 of their points.
- Marian is now 3-3 all-time against UWS with two straight victories, the season opener last year.
