Marian University men’s basketball (10-8, 6-5 NACC) finished non-conference play with a 75-57 win over Maranatha Baptist.
- It took a little while for both offenses to find a groove as the two squads combined for only 11 points through the first 6:34 of action.
- A 15-5 run for the Sabres, sparked by seven points from junior Andrew Ayeni, gave Marian a 21-10 lead with 8:26 left in the first half.
- Marian maintained a comfortable double-digit lead for most of the remainder of the half.
- A steal and layup from freshman Marvin Haslett in the final seconds put the Sabres ahead 34-21 at the break.
- The Sabercats opened the second half by cutting their deficit to only six points.
- Marian responded immediately going on a 14-2 lead to build an 18-point advantage.
- The Sabres continued to push building their lead to as large as 29 at 69-40 with 5:59 left to play.
- Marian finished 29-of-76 (.382) from the field and 11-of-29 (.379) from beyond the arc.
- The Sabre defense held MBU to 21-of-60 (.350) shooting and 3-of-19 (.158) on triples.
- Marian has now hit double-digit three-pointers in three straight games.
