Marian flag football makes program debut

Marian University flag football (0-1, 0-0 NACC) dropped its inaugural game to Purdue Northwest, 25-6.

  • On the opening drive, sophomore Emily Eastham intercepted a Pride pass on 4th-and-3, giving the Sabres possession at midfield.
  • Freshman Holly Goodwin added an interception on Marian’s next defensive series. 
  • Goodwin connected with fellow freshman Kendall Graves for a nine-yard touchdown, giving Marian a 6-0 lead and the first score in program history. 
  • Pride quarterback Marilyn Myrick scrambled for a 42-yard gain late in the first half, setting up a touchdown as time expired, sending the teams into the break tied 6-6.
  • Purdue Northwest took their first lead of the game early in the second half on a 22-yard interception return for a score.
  • Marian put together a ten-play drive midway through the third quarter, but were unable to translate it into any points. 
  • The Pride scored three second-half touchdowns to shut out the Sabres, totaling 18 points.

  • Marian was outgained 82 to minus-1 on the ground despite holding a slight edge in rushing attempts (19-18).
  • Each team totaled 67 passing yards, while Marian held an advantage in passing attempts and completions. 
  • The Sabre defense produced three sacks and two interceptions
  • Myrick totaled three touchdowns, including two rushing scores for the Pride.
  • Saturday also marked the inaugural game for Purdue Northwest.
