Marian field hockey shuts out Earlham

Marian University field hockey (2-0, 0-0 SAA) finished the first weekend of the season with a 2-0 win at Earlham.

  • A defensive opening quarter saw only one shot between the two squads and a scoreless stanza.
  • Marian would outshoot the Quakers 8-2 in the second quarter but still the game remained scoreless going into halftime.
  • Marian was finally able to open the scoring 4:08 into the second half when sophomore Allyson Nichols scored with an assist to fellow sophomore Eva Houtackers.
  • The mostly defensive battle continued until Marian was able to ice the game with a score off of a penalty corner.
  • Sophomore Jikke Biemans was able to bury the penalty corner chance, assist to sophomore Merel Nagelkerke, with just 3:14 left to play to put the final at 2-0.

  • Marian finisehd with a 16-6 edge in shots with each team putting four shots on goal.
  • The Sabres once again held an advantage in penalty corners at 7-4.
  • Marian has not allowed a goal to Earlham in two meetings.

Freshman Emilee Clarey (2-0) stopped all four shots she faced to earn the victory in the cage.
Sophomore Allyson Nichols scored the game-winning goal in the third quarter.
Sophomore Jikke Biemans scored a goal to give her three scores on the season.
