Marian University field hockey (9-5, 2-2 CFHC) held off a late push to defeat Sewanee 2-1 to end its trip to Tennessee.
 

• As has been the trend this season, Marian was able to use a strong fourth quarter and defensive performance to win a nail biter.
• The opening quarter saw plenty of action for both sides but neither side was able to score.
• After a quiet second quarter, Sewanee had a strong start to the third but Marian settled in to keep the game scoreless.
• Marian was able to open the scoring 3:26 into the final quarter when freshman Shaelyn Klassen found the back of the cage off of a penalty corner.
• It took Marian just 3:54 to add to its lead when senior Allyson Nichols was able to score on a penalty-stroke.
• Sewanee was able to make things interesting scoring their first goal of the game off of a penalty corner a minute later.
• Junior Emilee Clarey was able to turn the Tigers away on a penalty corner in the final seconds to secure the win.

• Sewanee held a slim advantage on shots at 13-12 and 9-7 for shots on goal.
• The Tigers also finished with nine penalty corners to only four for the Sabres.
• Marian improves to 5-2 this season in games decided by one goal.
• The Sabres are now 5-3 all-time against Sewanee after being defeated by the Tigers three times last season.
• Marian ties a single-season record for wins in the victory.
• The Sabres can clinch the No. 3 seed for the CFHC Tournament with a win over CUW in the final game of the regular season.

	Junior Emilee Clarey (8-5) stopped eight shots and allowed just one goal.
	Freshman Shaelyn Klassen scored her second goal of the season.
	Senior Allyson Nichols netted the fifth goal of the season and fourth penalty-stroke goal of her career.
