Marian University field hockey (4-4, 0-1 CFHC) was defeated by Mary Washington 5-2 in its first conference game of the season.

- Marian came out quick and nearly came away with a penalty-corner goal in teh opening minute of play.
- The Eagles were able to stave off the early Sabre momentum and scored at the 4:16 mark.
- The 1-0 Eagle lead stood until the second quarter when UMW netted a goal with 7:02 left until halftime.
- Marian was able to cut its deficit in half with 5:00 left on the clock when junior Jikke Biemans netted an unassisted goal.
- The 2-1 tally held going into halftime, but UMW scored 1:18 into the second half to build its lead to 3-1.
- The final 6:51 saw the two squads combine for three goals opening with UMW extending its lead to 4-1.
- Then with 4:32 to play, Biemans netted her second of the game on a corner from freshman Laura Bos.
- The Eagles scored off of a penalty corner of their own just 1:34 later to put the final at 5-2.

- Mary Washington outshot Marian 21-10 for the game and 15-6 for shots on goal.
- The Eagles also finished with a 7-4 edge in penalty corners.
- Marian had 45 fouls and one green card to 40 fouls and two green cards for UMW.
- This was the first meeting between the two schools.
