Marian field hockey dominates Oberlin to open season

Marian University field hockey (1-0, 0-0 SAA) dominated Oberlin opening the season with a 5-0 victory.

  • Marian opened the scoring just 3:40 into the match with sophomore Jikke Biemans scoring with an assist from fellow sophomore Allyson Nichols.
  • Nichols then netted a goal at the 7:25 to give Marian a 2-0 edge after the first 15 minutes.
  • After a scoreless second quarter, sophomore Eva Houtackers netted her first goal of the year 4:47 into the second half.
  • Sophomore Indi Rameckers then gave Marian a 4-0 edge headed into the fourth quarter scoring with just 1:43 left in the third, assist to Biemans.
  • Biemans secured the fourth multi-goal performance of her career finishing the scoring with a fourth quarter score, assist to Houtackers.

  • The Sabres didn’t allow a single shot in the victory outshooting Oberlin 32-0 with 19 shots on goal.
  • Marian also didn’t allow a penalty corner and created 17 opportunities of their own.
  • This was the first meeting between Marian and Oberlin.
  • Marian has now won its season opener in both seasons of its existence after defeating CUW last season.
