Marian baseball sweeps opening day of spring trip

Marian University baseball (3-1, 0-0 NACC) had a pair of strong offensive outings to sweep Concordia College 8-3 and 10-0 to open its trip to the RussMatt Invitational.

GAME 1

  • The Cobbers were able to strike early scoring a pair of runs in the first and one more in the second to lead 3-0.
  • Marian was able to strike back in the third tying the game at 3-3 to spark a run of eight unanswered runs.
  • Senior Robbie Knorr was able to tie the game with a single to close out the third.
  • A double steal with an errant throw allowed junior Gus Walker to score in the fourth and give Marian its first lead.
  • This helped spark another three-run inning as Marian built a 6-3 advantage.
  • Senior Logan Rademan drove in a run with a ground-rule double and junior James Bornick capped the inning with a run-producing single.
  • Back-to-back doubles from junior Jacob Kleeman and Rademan would plate the final runs of an 8-3 victory.

GAME 2

  • Marian took control of game two early scoring eight runs in the first four innings to secure a sweep of the Cobbers.
  • Kleeman drove in a pair of runs in the second inning and graduate student Dylan Pease had a double to drive in two more runs to highlight the early offense.
  • A sacrifice fly from sophomore Sam Wiederholt came in the sixth and Knorr was able to score in the seventh to cap the 10-0 win.
  • The wins were the first victories for Marian against Concordia College in program history.

GAME 1

Senior Logan Rademan finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two more driven in.
Junior Tanner Alsteen tossed the final 2.2 innings and didn’t allow a run to earn his first save.
Junior Jacob Kleeman was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a run driven in in his first start as a Sabre.

GAME 2 

Senior Logan Rademan had another strong game going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run driven in.
Sophomore Hunter Netzler (1-1) earned the first win of his career going 6.0 innings allowing just one hit.
Junior Jacob Kleeman had another multi-hit game going 2-for-5 with two runs driven in.
