  • Concordia College opened the scoring in the third before Marian evened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth by taking advantage of an error.
  • The Cobbers retook the lead at 2-1 in the sixth.
  • The lead didn’t last long as junior Charlie Zimmer ripped a two-out, pinch-hit double in the bottom half of the inning to give Marian its first lead of the game, 3-2.
  • The Cobbers were able to put together a rally in the seventh scoring three times to lead 5-3.
  • Marian was able to force extras in the bottom half with sacrifice flies from juniors Lucas Lemons and Jason Sims.
  • The Cobbers loaded the bases in the top of the eighth with nobody out, but Marian escaped the jam with a strikeout and a double play.
  • With that momentum, the first three hitters for the Sabres reached safely before sophomore Arjay Valdez scored the winning run.

GAME 2 (L, 6-3)

  • A Cobber home run opened the scoring in the second and sparked CC to take a 6-0 lead after six innings.
  • Marian battled back loading the bases in the top of the seventh.
  • With two outs, Sims was able to hit a double to right field to clear the bases.
  • This would be as close as Marian would manage, however, as the Cobbers retired the next Marian hitter.
