Marian baseball splits twin bill with North Park

Marian University baseball (4-3, 0-0 NACC) split a doubleheader with North Park winning the opener 7-2 before falling 5-1.

 GAME 1 (W, 7-2, AWAY)

  • North Park opened the scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the third before a big frame from the Sabres.
  • The Sabres were able to take advantage of shaky North Park defense plating five runs in the top half of the fourth.
  • Sophomore Marc Jones capped off the inning with a dobule that brought home senior Gus Walker.
  • Some small ball and another Viking error saw Marian add two runs in the fifth with the 7-2 tally holding up as the final.

GAME 2 (L, 5-1, HOME)

  • A strong start for the Vikings saw North Park plate three runs in the opening frame and led 5-0 after four innings.
  • A run-producing single from graduate student Dylan Pease in the fifth inning put Marian on the board.
  • The Sabres had just one runner the remainder of the game as NPU was able to salvage the split.

Senior Riley Richard (1-0) tossed a complete game in the victory allowing just one earned run.
Senior Gus Walker had a hit in each game going 1-for-2 with two runs driven in and a run scored in game one.
Graduate student Riley Palmquist was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the victory.
