Marian baseball settles for split at Illinois Tech

Marian University baseball (7-5, 1-1 NACC) defeated Illinois Tech 10-2 before falling in the second game 8-3 to open conference play.

GAME 1

  • The Sabres put the first three runners on of the game and it led to five runs.
  • Senior Riley Palmquist had the big hit of the frame with a double that scored a run.
  • Illinois Tech scored its first run of the day in the second before another big inning saw Marian pad its lead in the fourth.
  • The Sabres scored three runs in the frame to build an 8-1 lead with juniors Jacob Kleemann and James Bornick each driving in a run.
  • The Scarlet Hawks were able to score once in the fifth to only trail 8-2.
  • Marian was able to put the game away in the seventh when senior Andrew Schroeder and junior Gus Walker each driving in a run.
  • Junior Riley Richard went the distance on the mound for his second straight complete game.

GAME 2

  • The Scarlet Hawks came out fast in game two hitting two home runs as part of a four-run first inning.
  • Bornick answered with a home run of his own in the second and a run later in the inning off of an error saw Marian trail just 4-2.
  • Another error in the fifth helped the Sabres plate a run and trail just 4-3.
  • Illinois Tech was able to hold off the momentum shift hitting a home run in the fifth and plating two in the sixth to put the final at 8-3.

GAME 1

Junior Riley Richard (3-0) went the distance with four strikeouts in his second straight complete game.
Senior Logan Rademan was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored two runs.
Junior Jacob Kleemann was 1-for-2 and drew two walks.  He would score one run and drove in another.

GAME 2

Senior Logan Rademan had the lone multi-hit game of any Sabre in the twin bill going 2-for-4.
Junior James Bornick hit his second home run of the season.
Senior Connor Medvecz tossed 1.2 innings in relief allowing just one hit.
