Marian baseball finishes NACC play with sweep of WLC

Marian University baseball (24-14, 17-7 NACC) finished conference play with wins of 12-2 and 9-2 over Wisconsin Lutheran.

GAME 1

  • Marian wasted no time opening the scoring plating six runs before the Warriors even stepped up to the plate.
  • A single from junior James Bornick brought in a pair of runs to open the scoring.
  • The Sabres would play small ball to score the rest of their runs using a stolen base, sacrifice bunt, and wild pitch to lead 6-0.
  • A double from senior Robbie Knorr then began a three-run second inning as Marian built a 9-0 cushion.
  • A sacrifice fly from graduate student Dylan Pease put the Sabres up double-digits in teh third inning.
  • After a run in the fifth and sixth, the Sabres led 12-0.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran would plate a run in the sixth and seventh but Marian held on for the opening win.

GAME 2

  • Marian jumped ahead early in game two as well with junior Jacob Kleemann scoring on a passed ball in the top of the first.
  • A wild pitch followed by a run-producing ground out from senior Tyler Blum had Marian ahead 3-0 after two innings.
  • The Warriors cut their deficit down to one with two home runs in the sixth, but Marian was able to pull away late.
  • The Sabres would plate three runs in the eighth and another three in the ninth to secure a sweep.

 GAME 1

Sophomore Hunter Netzler (4-3) earned the win allowing just three hits and an earned run over 6.0 innings.
Junior James Bornick had a big game going 3-for-4 with three runs driven in and two runs scored.
Junior Gus Walker finished 2-for-3 with a run driven in and three runs scored.

  
GAME 2

Junior Tanner Alsteen (4-4) tossed his second complete game of the season allowing only two earned runs with four strikeouts.
Junior Jacob Kleemann was 3-for-5 at the top of the order with a run driven in and two more scored.
Senior Riley Palmquist was 1-for-3 and scored a pair of runs.
