Marian baseball earns spot in NACC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC – Marian University baseball (18-19, 12-10 NACC) earned a spot in the NACC Tournament after splitting with Lakeland with a 10-6 win followed by a 7-2 defeat.

GAME 1

  • The two squads combined for eight runs in the first two innings as the game opened with a 4-4 tie.
  • Senior Ryan Nelson had a double in the opening frame to highlight the fast start.
  • After both offenses settled down, Marian took the lead for good off of an error in the fifth.
  • The Sabres were able to break the game open in the sixth plating five runs.
  • Sophomore Marc Jones ended the rally with a double to left field that brought home two runs.

GAME 2

  • The Muskies were able to jump out early on the Sabres scoring five runs in the second frame.
  • Single runs in the fourth and fifth inning saw Lakeland expand its lead to 7-0.
  • A double from senior Logan Rademan got Marian on the board in the top of the seventh but Lakeland plated a run in the bottom half.
  • The Sabres were able to use an error in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 8-3 but stranded a pair of runners in scoring position.
  • A single from senior Jacob Kleemann in the top of the ninth set the final at 8-4.
  • With the split, Marian clinched a spot in the NACC Tournament for a second straight season.
  • Marian is 68-31 all-time against Lakeland but just 5-5 at Lakeland since 2016.

Senior James Bornick had multiple hits in each game driving in two runs with a run scored.
Senior Tanner Alsteen (5-2) went 8.0 innings to earn the win in the opener and allowed only three earned runs.
Senior Ryan Nelson was 3-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored in the opener.
