Marian baseball earns postseason berth with split of No. 17 Aurora

Marian University baseball (20-14, 13-7 NACC) clinched a spot in the NACC Tournament after splitting with No. 17 Aurora on a windy day.

GAME 1

  • The Spartans were able to jump out early with a big lead after scoring eight runs in the top of the second.
  • Marian would score in every inning the remainder of the game.
  • A home run from senior Robbie Knorr highlighted three unanswered runs for Marian between the second and third to only trail 8-3.
  • Aurora was able to extend its lead in the fourth with two more runs, however, and led 10-3.
  • Junior Jacob Kleemann would hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Aurora answered with a three-run shot in the fifth to put Aurora ahead 13-5.
  • The Marian comeback began in the bottom of the fifth where the Sabres scored five runs.
  • Senior Logan Rademan highlighted the inning with a double that scored a run.
  • Senior Andrew Schroeder was able to drive in a run in the sixth to cut the Sabre deficit to two.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, Radmean would go deep with a two-run blast to force extras.
  • After a quiet top of the 10th, senior Brady Zackrison pinch-hit to open the bottom of the 10th and hit a home run to left center to clinch the 14-13 win in eight inning.

GAME 2

  • The two squads traded runs in the first inning before another big second inning from Aurora put the Spartans ahead 10-1.
  • Rademan would double in a run in the third and junior James Bornick drove in a run with a single in the fifth.
  • The Spartans would prevent a sweep, however, scoring 11 runs over the final three innings.
  • Aurora eventually salvaged a split with a 22-3 final.

Junior Jacob Kleemann was 5-for-5 with three runs driven in and four runs scored in the opener.  He also had a multi-hit effort in game two.
Senior Logan Rademan was 4-for-5 with three runs driven in and two runs scored in the opening game.
Senior Robbie Knorr was 4-for-5 with two driven in and three runs scored in game one.
