Marian Athletics completes annual Cans Across the Conference competition

Marian University Athletics recently completed its annual Cans Across the Conference competition through the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Marian was able to raise 2,304 items or 1,957 pounds of canned goods for the Fond du Lac Food Pantry.  The Sabre baseball program led the way for the department with 500 pounds of canned goods.  The NCAA men’s ice hockey team and men’s bowling squads each raised 299 pounds.  The Marian women’s bowling program led the way for all of the women’s sports with 251 pounds of contributions.

The Cans Across the Conference program was created in 2006 and has served as a friendly competition across schools in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.  Each school collects non-perishable goods, monetary donations, and other hygenic products to be donated to a local charity.

Marian has annually made its donation to the Fond du Lac Food Pantry.  Founded in 1973, the Fondy Food Pantry has several programs to aid in the growing need for food assistance in the Fond du Lac area.  Powered by more than 200 volunteers, the Fond du Lac Food Pantry served more than 40,000 individuals across Fond du Lac county in 2024.  The Fondy Food Pantry expanded its programs during the CoVID pandemic to aid in the growing needs for unhoused community members.
