Marian ACHA D2 Earns Four Points in NCHL Opening Weekend

Marian University ACHA D2 (3-1-0, 2-0-0 NCHL) defeated Marquette 3-2 and 8-7 in a shootout to earn four NCHL points.

GAME 1 (W, 3-2, HOME)

  • Marquette was able to open the scoring but Easton Nick lit the lamp for the first time this season right before the final buzzer of th opening period.
  • The Sabres then took their first lead of the game in the second with a power-play score from Jason Vogler.
  • Serge Simard gave Marian a 3-1 cushion heading into the final period.
  • The Golden Eagles trimmed the Sabre lead down to one in the third period but the Sabres were able to hold off the rally.

GAME 2 (W, 8-7 (SO), ROAD)

  • There was plenty of offense as the Sabres and Golden Eagles combined for 14 goals in regulation.
  • After a scoreless overtime, Marian took the extra point from Marquette with a win in the shootout.

  • Marian had double-digit shots in each period and finished the game with a 37-32 advantage.
  • The Sabre power play finished with a goal on six chances, while the penalty kill had a perfect night not allowing a goal on four Golden Eagle opportunities.
