Lu, Holevas take first Sabre of the Month awards for 2023-24

Freshman Yinan Lu of Marian University women’s golf and senior Logan Holevas of Marian University men’s golf have been named the Sabres of the Month for September.

Lu (Qindao, China) had an historic opening month to her career with the Sabre women’s golf program.  Lu averaged 80.9 strokes over nine rounds of action recording four rounds under 80, a feat that had never been accomplished prior to this season.  She earned medalist honors twice during the opening month of ht season and finished inside the top-five three times.  Her best round came at the opening round of the NACC Championship where she carded a 75.  Lu currently sits in first atop the individual leaderboard after the first two rounds of the NACC Championship.  She would earn two NACC Player of the Week awards.

Holevas (Lake Villa, Ill.) paced the Sabre offense the first month of the season to earn his first Sabre of the Month award.  The midfielder scored three goals to go with an assist for seven points on the month.  Holevas had two of his goals serve as the game-winner, while his latest goal helped secure a draw at Rockford to earn Marian its first conference point of the year.  He had a five-point week following the season opener earning him a NACC Player of the Week selection.

Marian women’s golf concludes the NACC Championship Oct. 7-8 from Washington County Golf Course, while the Sabre men’s soccer team hosts Concordia Chicago Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
