Longtime Owners of Edith’s Bridal & Tuxedo Junction AnnounceRetirement; Property Acquired by Sam Meyer

Edith’s Bridal & Tuxedo Junction has been a cornerstone of Downtown Fond du Lac since September 17, 1937. Originally opened as a women’s clothing store by founder Edith, the shop evolved over the decades to focus on bridal gowns—following postWWII trends—and later expanded to include tuxedo rentals. In 1989, Edith’s great-nephew, Tom Deitte, took over ownership of Tuxedo Junction and, alongside his wife Cathy, has continued to lead the business with dedication and innovation. Unlike most tuxedo stores that order from outof-state suppliers, Tuxedo Junction stocks and prepares each tuxedo or suit in-house, ensuring faster service and greater attention to detail. Edith’s is now a regional destination for bridal, prom, first communion and special occasion dresses, as well as and tuxedo suits and tuxedo rentals.

From handwritten receipts and pneumatic tubes to a modern digital system, Edith’s has remained resilient through the rise of malls, big box stores, and shifting shopping habits. Generations of customers have returned to Edith’s for one of life’s most meaningful milestones—making the store a treasured part of Fond du Lac’s history. For many customers, Edith’s is more than a store; it is a walk down memory lane.

Beyond their retail success, Tom and Cathy have been deeply involved in the community – volunteering for Walleye Weekend and contributing to events such as Habitat for Humanity’s Academy Awards Night. They’ve been strong advocates for downtown and are widely respected members of the business community. Tom is also past president of both the President of the Downtown Fond du Lac Partnership and International Formalwear Association, further
demonstrating his leadership and commitment to the industry and community.

Now, after decades of service, Tom and Cathy are preparing for retirement. Their wellestablished, turnkey bridal business—with a loyal customer base and strong community ties—is available for new ownership. The Deittes are committed to supporting the transition for anyone who steps into this exciting opportunity.

Meanwhile, the historic building has been purchased by local developer Sam Meyer, known for his thoughtful restorations and commitment to downtown revitalization. Meyer’s plans include maintaining the main floor as retail space while transforming the upper floor into residential suites. The property, which connects to 18 Hands Ale Haus, will also see an expanded biergarten and a permanent outdoor music stage—further advancing the vision of Downtown Fond du Lac as a vibrant arts and entertainment district.

Meyer welcomes the opportunity to work with the future owner of Edith’s Bridal to ensure its legacy continues as a key downtown anchor.
