Lindert lights it up as Sabre men’s basketball rolls to victory

Senior Derek Lindert scored 33 of his 37 points in the first half, as Marian University men’s basketball (2-2, 0-0 NACC) cruised to a win over Saint Mary’s, 105-73.

  • Senior Derek Lindert set the tone early, scoring eight of Marian’s first 11 points.
  • After holding an 16-13 lead with 14:00 remaining in the first half, Lindert took over. Starting with a tip-in layup, he outscored the Cardinals 20-4. During this stretch, Lindert shot a perfect 7-for-7, including six three-pointers. 
  • Coming out of the Saint Mary’s timeout, Marian maintained their momentum as Lindert hit another three-pointer, assisted by sophomore Harper Krolak, who finished with seven assists in the half.  
  • After leading by as much as 19 in the first half, the Cardinals trimmed the deficit down to 10 going into the break, with the Sabres leading 49-39. 
  • The Sabres started the second half on a 16-4 run, with Krolak scoring eight of those points. 
  • A four-point play from junior Rashawn Bost extended the Sabre lead to 25 with 13:09 remaining. 
  • Marian eclipsed 100 for the first time this season with a layup from junior Michael Matz
  • The Sabres walked away with a 32-point victory, ending the game on a 12-2 run.

  • Marian dominated in multiple categories, including points off turnovers, where they held a 29-7 advantage after forcing 17 Cardinal turnovers. 
  • The Sabres also held a 25-6 differential in fast break points, highlighting the fast-paced Sabre offense. 
  • The 105 points scored were the most by the Sabres’ offense since another 105-point performance in 2022 against Lakeland. 
  • Lindert’s 37 points were the most scored by a Sabre in a game since Tyler Gouin scored 40 against Lakeland during the 2022-23 campaign.
  • His nine three-point makes were also the most by a Sabre in a game since David Britton’s 10 in a win over Beloit in 2021. 
  • Speaking of David Britton, Harper Krolak is the first Sabre with a 10-assist game since Britton dished out 11 in the 2021-22 season. 
  • This was the second all-time meeting between the Sabres and Cardinals, with Marian now holding a 2-0 advantage in the series. The last meeting took place in December 1992.

Senior Derek Lindert knocked down nine three-pointers on just 12 attempts, finishing with an astonishing 37 points.
Sophomore Harper Krolak posted the first double-double of his Sabre career, totaling 12 points and 10 assists. 
Junior Andrew Ayeni added 19 points for the Sabres and has scored in double figures in all four games this season.
