“Lights On Afterschool” Kicks Off Family Strengthening Events

This year’s “Lights On Afterschool” event attracted over 490 community members to celebrate the positive impact of afterschool programs. The event was held in partnership with the Fond du Lac Family YMCA and Boys & Girls Club of Fond du Lac as one of five Family Strengthening events held throughout the school year. The event featured creatively decorated haunted classrooms that combined fun crafts, caramel apples, popcorn, and games that engaged families in unique experiences.

More than 13 community partners—including local nonprofits, businesses, and educational organizations—joined together to support the event, offering activities that highlighted the importance of afterschool programs in our community. Their collaboration showed the strength of community partnerships in providing safe, enriching spaces for youth.

The event celebrated how afterschool programs promote academic success, social development, and personal growth. The amazing turnout reflected the community’s shared commitment to offering opportunities beyond the school day. We thank everyone who participated and look forward to continuing to support afterschool programs that help our youth learn, grow, and thrive in our community.

We are especially thankful for our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator, Hannah Schumacher, who has done an incredible job leading our Family Strengthening events and has been a dedicated team member of the Boys & Girls Club for the past year and a half. Her commitment and leadership have made a meaningful impact on our community, and we deeply appreciate her contributions to the committee and organization.

Our next event will be the New Year’s Eve Bash on Wednesday, December 31 from 1:00-4:00pm. Mark your calendar!
