Late score leads Marian women’s hockey to sweep of UW-Superior

Marian University women’s hockey (6-8-1, 3-4-1-0 NCHA) secured a sweep of UW-Superior with a 4-3 win.

  • Just like the opening game, neither offense was able to find a groove early.
  • UW-Superior was able to break the scoreless tie with just 1:07 left in the opening period with a power-play score.
  • The Sabres responded with a power play of their own when junior Sydney Schipper scored with 6:16 left in the second.
  • Senior Alyssa Heim then scored with 26 seconds left to give Marian its first lead.
  • The Sabres weren’t finished in the second as junior Allie Kieffer was able to push a goal across in the final seconds to give Marian a 3-1 lead after two periods.
  • UW-Superior was able to tie the game in the third scoring at the 10:20 mark and with just 5:38 left in regulation.
  • Senior Aeryn Olson quickly had a response scoring the game-winner with just 3:15 on the clock.

  • UW-Superior held a 36-32 advantage for shots where Marian outshot UWS 17-8 in the second period.
  • Each team netted a power play with the Sabres having five opportunities to only four for the Yellow Jackets.
  • Marian improves to 2-11-2 all-time with the sweep.

Senior Aeryn Olson scored the game-winning goal, it was her third score of the year.
Junior Abby Okon (4-4-0) finished with 33 saves and had 14 saves in the third period.
Junior Dayna Jones had her first multi-point game of the season with two helpers.
