Late rally falls just short for Sabre women’s basketball

Marian University women’s basketball (4-11, 2-4 NACC) outscored Aurora in the final quarter but fell to the Spartans 75-69.

  • Aurora scored the first basket but after that Marian never trailed in the opening quarter.
  • Marian led by as much as five at 9-4, but the game was a one-possession game for most of the quarter.
  • A late three-pointer from the Spartans put the score at 17-17 after 10 minutes.
  • The Sabres led 23-21 early in the second quarter before Aurora scored 10 unanswered points to lead 31-23.
  • This advantage held for the remainder of the quarter with Aurora holding a 34-27 lead at halftime.
  • The Spartans came out of the break strong scoring seven unanswered points to lead 41-27.
  • Aurora maintained a double-digit lead for most of the stanza leading by as many as 17 points.
  • The Sabres scored four straight to end the quarter to only trail 59-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Marian chipped away at the Aurora lead and trailed 71-63 with 2:40 left to play.
  • A late three-pointer closed out the game at a 75-69 final as Marian was unable to complete a comeback.

  • Aurora forced 20 Sabre turnovers and outscored Marian 19-14 in points off turnovers.
