Late push falls just short for Sabre baseball

Marian University baseball (11-17, 5-11 NACC) was finally able to finish its series with Concordia Chicago falling 8-4.

  • The Cougars were able to score the first five runs of the game and led 5-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.
  • The bottom of the sixth opened with a Cougar error and Marian was able to take advantage scoring three runs.
  • Freshman Connor Schroeder got Marian on the board with a one-out single.
  • The junior Lucas Lemons drove in two runs with a two-out single to put the score at 5-3.
  • This score held all the way until the ninth when CUC was able to pull away with three runs.
  • Sophomore Sawyer Shultis was able to bring home a run in the bottom half of the final frame to put the score at 8-4.

  • The Cougars finished with a 14-7 advantage in hits.
  • Each team had one error with Marian scoring three unanswered runs and the Cougars one.
  • The Marian pitching staff was able to strand 12 Cougars on the base paths.
  • Marian has now dropped four straight meetings against CUC.

Junior Lucas Lemons was the lone Sabre with multiple hits and drove in two runs.
Junior Carson McLean allowed just five hits in 4.1 innings of relief.
Sophomore Sawyer Shultis drove in a run and scored a run.
