Marian University women’s soccer (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NACC) allowed a goal with just 1:07 left in the match in a 3-2 loss against Carthage.

- Carthage got off to a fast start and capitalized with a goal off of a corner kick just 1:23 into the game.

- Sophomore Emily Gordillo would strike from the corner of the box in the 21st minute to put the game at 1-1.

- Gordillo struck again for her second goal with a blast from 35 yards out at the 67:38 mark to put Marian ahead for the first time.
- This lead didn’t last long as the Firebirds tied the game again just 4:50 later.
- Gordillo was then turned away twice by the top woodwork in the 80th and 84th minute to keep the game at 2-2.
- A centering pass that led to a collision in the box saw Carthage retake the lead with 1:07 left in the match.
- Marian was able to send two shots in the final minute, one being on goal, but couldn’t find an equalizer.

- Marian held a hefty 27-8 advantage in shots with a 13-5 edge in shots on goal.
- Each team had three corner kicks in the first half but the Firebirds finished with a 5-3 advantage.
- Marian hasn’t won its season opener since the 2019 season, a 4-0 victory at home over Beloit.
