Kotlowski joins Sabre women’s ice hockey staff

Katie Kotlowski has been announced as an assistant coach for the Marian University women’s ice hockey program.

“We are thrilled to have Katie join our coaching staff,” said Head Women’s Ice Hockey Coach Joe Gerarden.  “Her deep understanding of the game and championship pedigree will greatly benefit our program.  We are excited to have Katie help build the culture of our program through all of her past experiences at the highest level of collegiate hockey.”

Kotlowski joins the Sabre coaching staff after skating the past six seasons at the University of Wisconsin, NCAA Division I.  During her time, Kotlowski skated in 179 games scoring nine goals with 30 assists for 39 total points from the Badger blue line.  Kotlowski also played a major role in Wiscosnin winning three national championships during her tenure; 2021, 2023, and 2025.  Along with winning a national title for the 2024-25 season, Kotlowski was a part of a squad that set a program record for wins with 38 overall victories and 25 wins in Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) play.  Off the ice, she was a two-time WCHA Scholar-Athlete and five-time Academic All-WCHA selection.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the Marian women’s ice hockey program and begin working with this team as I transition from my collegiate career at Wisconsin,” said Kotlowski.  “I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the development, culture, and success of the program.  I’m eager to get started in this coaching role.”

Prior to her collegiate carer, Kotlowski was a standout at Warroad High School leading the Warriors to the semifinals of the Minnesota state tournament all four years of her career.  Kotlowski was an All-State selection twice during her time and finished her career with 110 points.  She also served as the captain of the team in her senior campaign.

Kotlowski earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Rehabilitation Psychology from Wisconsin in 2023 followed by a Master’s of Science in Sports Leadership in 2025.
