Kolpitcke earns NCHA Star of the Week award

Senior Kayla Kolpitcke of Marian University women’s hockey has been named an NCHA Star of the Week.

Kolpitcke (Powell, Wyo.) had another dominating weekend to lead Marian to a five-point weekend against Trine.  Kolpitcke allowed just one goal on the weekend to give her a 0.49 goals-against average and a .986 save percentage off of 71 total saves.  She opened the weekend with her first shutout of the season stopping all 37 shots she faced.  The following day, Kolpitcke made 34 saves allowing just one goal to lead the Sabres to an overtime victory.  Kolpitcke also anchored the Sabre penalty kill to a perfect weekend not allowing a power-play goal on nine Trine chances.

Through five starts, Kolpitcke is third in the NCHA with a 1.56 goals-against average and her .960 save percentage is ninth in the country.  Kolpitcke is the second Marian goaltender to earn NCHA Star of the Week recognition this season.

Marian finishes the first half with a two-game series at Bethel in non-conference action.  Game one is slated for a 7 p.m. puck drop Friday, December 8.
