Keep more dollars in your pocket with the help of money-smart events at the Fond du Lac Public Library

Learn to protect your pocketbook with the help of wallet-friendly events at the Fond du Lac Public Library during April and early May.

During National Financial Literacy Month (and beyond), the library will team with various community organizations to hold a series of money-smart events, all of which will be free and open to the public.

These programs include:

  • Protect Yourself: Financial Safety & Fraud Prevention, presented by the personal bankers of National Exchange Bank & Trust: On Monday, April 6 at 6 p.m., discover practical tips to spot common scams, protect your accounts, and keep your money secure.
  • Budgeting Basics, presented by Verve, a Credit Union: On Tuesday, April 7 at 6 p.m., learn strategies, find useful tools, and build the budgeting skills you need to secure a stronger financial future. Registration encouraged, but not required.
  • Myths and Mistakes in Estate Planning, presented by attorney Tracy Gibson: On Thursday, April 16 at 6 p.m., learn about the perils of probate, proper use of beneficiary designations, wills, trusts, and power of attorney documents.
  • Wants & Wallets, a Money Smart Book Read, presented by Carol Bralich of UW-Extension Fond du Lac: On Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m., participate in a fun and frank discussion on the book, “Buy What You Love Without Going Broke: Transform Your Spending and Get More of What Money Can’t Buy.” Registration is required; books will be reserved for program participants.
  • Debt Management, presented by Verve, a Credit Union: On Wednesday, May 6 at 6 p.m., learn practical strategies to manage debt more effectively, understand repayment options, and build a plan that supports your long-term financial goals.

Young kids can get an early start toward learning financial wellness on Monday and Tuesday, April 27 and 28 at 9:30 a.m. Each of those mornings, a personal banker from National Exchange Bank & Trust will join Family Storytime to read “What Can I Buy?” by Julie Moriarty as well as offering a piggy bank activity. Families who attend will receive a copy of the book as well (while supplies last).

Many other activities are also scheduled during April for all ages. To see the library’s complete schedule of events, visit calendar.fdlpl.org.
