Hard fought five set match ends with Sabre women’s volleyball falling to CUW

Marian University women’s volleyball (8-6, 1-2 NACC) fell to Concordia Wisconsin in a tight five-set match 25-27, 25-15, 25-20, 21-25, and 15-10.

  • Set one saw the Falcons jump out to a fast 9-5 start and grew its lead to 18-11.
  • The Sabres fought back behind a 12-5 run to tie the set at 23-23
  • After trading points to get to 25-25, the Sabres closed out set one.
  • The Falcons got out to a familiar 9-5 start and would not surrender a lead the remainder of set two. 
  • Set three saw the teams trade points being tied 5-5 and again at 15-15.
  • CUW would then go on a 6-0 run and would keep that lead to secure set three.
  • Set four was much of the same after the teams would trade points and be tied 12-12.
  • Marian would gain some momentum after a short run of their own and would end the fourth set on a 7-4 run.
  • The fifth set was the third set in a row where the Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead but the Sabres answered back to tie things up 6-6.
  • Another 6-0 run by the Falcons proved to be the deciding factor as the Falcons closed out set five 15-10.

  • The Sabres dominated from the service line again with the advantage in aces 7-4.
  • Marian had double-digit kills in four of the five sets hitting .119 for the match.
  • The Sabre defense caused 23 attacking errors from CUW while holding them to under .160 hitting in two of the five sets. 
  • Marian fell one dig shy of CUW with the Falcons holding the 76-75 advantage.

Senior Anna Tapia paced the Marian offense with 29 assists while adding seven digs.
Senior Serina Pehowski recorded 13 kills while recording three aces. 
Sophomore Alana McDermott lead the Sabres in digs recording 17 total.
