Goodwin ignites as Marian flag football extends win streak to six

Quarterback Holly Goodwin accounted for 276 total yards and six touchdowns against Illinois Wesleyan as Marian University women’s flag football (9-3) heads into the NACC Tournament riding a six-game winning streak.

GAME 1 (W, 12-7)

  • Marian got on the board in the second quarter with a nine-yard touchdown rush by freshman Holly Goodwin.
  • Rockford answered late in the second quarter, finishing a five-play, 66-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown run to lead, 7-6. 
  • The Sabres drove to the goal line on their first possession of the third quarter but were stopped on fourth-and-goal.
  • To open the fourth quarter, Rockford punted to sophomore Daniela Chaname, who broke through the Regents defense for a 65-yard touchdown to retake the lead for the Sabres.
  • Rockford had one last chance with under two minutes to go, but a key interception from freshman Kendall Graves sealed the 12-7 win.

GAME 2 (W, 38-12)

  • Illinois Wesleyan jumped out to a 12-0 lead, scoring in the first quarter and again in the second.
  • Goodwin ended the drought with a 59-yard touchdown pass to Graves, the longest passing touchdown of the season for the Sabres.
  • The Sabres scored twice more before the half, with Goodwin finding Chaname and sophomore Emily Eastham for 34- and 23-yard touchdowns.
  • Marian stayed rolling in the third as Goodwin found sophomore Nyedeng Awak for a 27-yard touchdown, her first of the season.
  • Marian forced five second-half interceptions and added two more touchdowns en route to a 38-12 win.

GAME 1

  • Marian held Rockford to just 4-of-17 passing with zero touchdowns. 
  • The Sabres averaged 28.3 yards per punt return, compared to just 2.0 for Rockford. 
  • The Sabre defense limited the Regents to 1-for-8 on third down.
  • Marian swept the regular season series with Rockford after a 27-0 win on April 9 at Smith Field.

GAME 2

  • Six Sabres reached the end zone in the win.
  • Graves reached double figures with her tenth receiving touchdown of the season.
  • Awak and freshman Anna Riley each recorded two sacks. 
  • Chaname intercepted three Illinois Wesleyan passes and returned them for 54 yards.
  • Marian previously defeated the Titans, 12-0, on March 22 at Smith Field.

Freshman Holly Goodwin passed for 216 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 60 yards and another score against Illinois Wesleyan.
Sophomore Daniela Chaname returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown against Rockford and recorded three interceptions against Illinois Wesleyan. 
Freshman Kendall Graves hauled in a 59-yard touchdown reception in game two and added three interceptions on the day.
