Goodson hat trick leads Marian women’s soccer past Benedictine

Marian University women’s soccer (6-8-3, 3-4-3 NACC) defeated Benedictine 4-0 in its final home match of the regular season.

  • Marian was able to jump out to a fast start when senior Isabella Goodson  scored just 10:46 into the match off of a failed Benedictine clear.
  • Senior Baylee Alvarado then extended the Sabre lead 4:19 later with her sixth goal of the season with assists from Goodson and sophomore Ysabella Sanchez.
  • Another turnover in the box lead Goodson to score her second goal fo the game in teh 25th minute.
  • The Sabres were able to take its 3-0 lead into halftime.
  • Another quick start to the second half saw freshman Sofia Vizcarra head a clear attempt past the Eagle back line for Goodson to bury her third goal of the game in the 56th minute.
  • Thhe 4-0 final would hold for the remaining 34 minutes.

  • Marian held a 15-5 advantage for shots in the game and limited the Eagles to just one shot on goal.
  • The Sabres had a 5-2 advantage for corner kicks.
  • Marian was called for 11 fouls, while the Eagles had seven fouls and a yellow card.
  • The all-time series remains in favor of the Sabres with Marian holding a 12-8-2 mark.
  • Marian sits in a tie for seventh in the NACC standings with two games left for the Sabres and three for most teams in the conference.

Junior Chelsea King (4-8-3) earned her third shutout of the season stopping the lone shot she faced.
