Furious second half leads Marian men's soccer past Rockford

Marian University men’s soccer (1-6-1, 1-3-0 NACC) earned its first victory of the season with a 4-2 comeback win over Rockford on the road.

The Sabres came out looking to generate offensive opportunities early, with Brayden Johnson recording Marian’s first shot of the contest at the 7:05 mark.
The Regents responded shortly after, finding the back of the net at 8:38 to take an early 1-0 lead.
Rockford added another goal just 3:13 later to extend its advantage to 2-0.
Marian looked poised to cut the deficit in half but a penalty kick and rebound from Zac Pfister was saved.
The Sabres were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, entering halftime down 2-0.
The Sabres finally broke through at the 57:17 mark when Fernando Mota found the back of the net on a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Just 3:14 later, Braeden Juergensen brought the score to an equal 2-2 with his first goal of the season.
The momentum continued to build for Marian as Pfister scored at 68:28 to give the Sabres their first lead of the contest, 3-2.
Marian continued to apply pressure late in the match with Jeremy Lutes adding another goal to extend the lead to 4-2 and seal the comeback victory.

Marian outshot Rockford 23-13 in the game including a 16-2 edge in shots on goal.
Marian held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Sabres scored four unanswered goals in the second half after falling behind 2-0.
Marian improves to 13-2-3 all-time against Rockford with a 4-0-1 record over the last five meetings.
