Furious rally falls short for Sabre men’s lacrosse at Illinois Tech

Marian University men’s lacrosse (1-5, 0-2 NACC) scored five unanswered goals to end the game but fell to Illinois Tech 16-11.

  • Illinois Tech opened the scoring for the game but it was Marian who led 2-1 with 5:27 left in the first quarter.
  • The Scarlet Hawks were able to score four unanswered goals over the final 3:40 of the opening quarter to lead 5-2.
  • After scoring the first three goals of the second quarter, the Scarlet Hawks would lead 8-2.
  • The two squads would trade goals the rest of the first half with Tech leading 11-4 at halftime.
  • The Sabres were able to score the opening goal of the second half before Illinois Tech built its lead to 15-5 heading into the fourth quarter with four straight scores.
  • Marian would dominate outscoring Tech 6-1 with junior Serge Simard scoring three goals.
  • The tough first half was too much to overcome, however, as Illinois Tech would secure a 16-11 win.

  • Marian falls to 1-3 all-time against the Scarlet Hawks with Tech winning the last three match-ups.

Freshman Jayden Gerhardt led the team with six ground balls.
Sophomore Jackson Sweeney made 10 saves, his fourth game this season with double-digit saves.
