The Fond du Lac County Health Department will be offering a free short-term radon test kit per household in exchange for a non-perishable, non-expired food item in the month of November. Food donations will be distributed between the Fondy Food Pantry and Waupun Food Pantry.
The Fond du Lac County Health Department encourages residents to take advantage of this opportunity to test your home for radon and support our local food pantries. Testing for radon is simple and it is the only way to know if your home has acceptable radon levels.
Radon is an odorless, naturally occurring gas that is the nation’s second leading cause of lung cancer, accounting for roughly 21,000 deaths each year according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Radon gas is released from rock or soil and may enter into homes through the foundation, cracks in floors and walls, or gaps around service pipes. Mitigation options are available for homes with elevated radon levels.
The free short-term radon test kit offer is redeemable Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Fond du Lac County Health Department, 3rd Floor, 160 S Macy St in Fond du Lac. Offer is only valid in the month of November. There is a limit of one kit per household.
Short Term Radon kits are available all year-round for $10.
