Fond du Lac Public Library is excited to share the arrival of the updated Fond du Lac local history book! You may remember the 1998 version, Foot of the Lake: An Early History of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, written by Cindy Barden for the Fond du Lac Public Library. This book has been a staple for our community and school district for decades.
However, history never ends and many areas of Fond du Lac’s past are left to explore. Their goal was to publish an informative, yet accessible and engaging, new book on our community. The result of this collaborative effort, Life by the Lake, Stories of Fond du Lac introduces readers to updated, new, and dynamic stories from the people of Fond du Lac. We hope this title can spark more conversations about our shared past and its people at the foot of the lake.
Please help them celebrate Life by the Lake: Stories of Fond du Lac and take home your own free copy. We will hear from the project’s Local History Writer, Daphne Lemke, and Local History Researcher, Tracy Reinhardt, regarding how they gathered, researched, crafted, and edited stories for the book, as well as from Avis Seizert, Oshkosh Public Museum’s Archives Librarian, about the importance of gathering community stories. We will also welcome Phyllis Tousey, Chairwoman of the Brothertown Indian Nation, as a guest reader.
Join in person Thursday, May 29th 6:00pm at the library to pick up your copy of the book or register here for a Zoom link. If you are unable to attend the event, stop in anytime starting May 30th for your own copy, free with your library card.
