First half lead slips away in Marian women’s basketball loss

Marian University women’s basketball (0-6, 0-2 NACC) led through two quarters, but faltered late in a 90-65 loss at Concordia Wisconsin.

  • Senior Chelsea King started the game by scoring the Sabres’ first five points, but the Falcons responded with eight unanswered. 
  • King finished the first quarter with 11 points as the Sabres trailed 24-22. 
  • Freshman Holly Goodwin’s steal-and-score gave the Sabres their first lead of the night with 6:25 left in the second quarter. 
  • An and-one layup by sophomore Taycee Schwanke extended the Sabres’ lead to seven.
  • This marked the Sabres’ first time leading at halftime this season, taking a 43-40 lead into the break. 
  • After leading by one, the Falcons went on a 16-0 run midway through the third quarter. The Sabres trailed 68-55 entering the fourth. 
  • Concordia held the Sabres to one field goal in the final five minutes, as the Falcons concluded with a 90-65 victory.

Sophomore Taycee Schwanke posted her second double-digit scoring game of the season, finishing with 10 points on perfect 3-for-3 shooting. 
Sophomore Emily Eastham added nine points and six rebounds.
