Envision Greater Fond du Lac launched their newly developed Public Office Preparation 101 (POP101) program. POP101 engages community members in local nonpartisan political processes by providing essential information and skills needed for success in public office. Participants will explore basic competencies, including how to navigate the paperwork process; fundraising and spending; campaigning; and building a public persona.
The first cohort of POP101 will begin in June, 2023, with two evening sessions and feature former state representatives and other experienced presenters on topics relevant to running for office in Fond du Lac County. The program extends upon the curriculum of Leadership Fond du Lac, which explores boardsmanship and how to run for local office within its curriculum.
“Having business-friendly policy makers is a priority for us as a chamber of commerce and economic development organization,” Sadie Vander Velde, President/CEO, Envision Greater Fond du Lac, said. “The Public Office Preparation program provides the tools necessary to help candidates take a step toward starting a campaign in Fond du Lac County, whether it’s for a city or town council position or school board.”
Participants in POP101 will learn about best practices in building a public profile; putting a campaign team together and developing a campaign platform; finding out more about the paperwork and process requirements of Fond du Lac County; developing campaign fundraising and spending strategies; gain perspective on what happens once being elected to public office; and more.
Registration is open for the 2023 program and can be found on the Envision Greater Fond du Lac website, under the events tab. Further information about Envision’s Advocacy Committee and How to Run for Local Office can also be found on the Envision Greater Fond du Lac website.
This program is sponsored in part by AT&T.
