Dreikosen, Kolpitcke named Sabres of the Month for February

Seniors Ryan Dreikosen and Kayla Kolpitcke each earned major awards in February to help secure Sabre of the Month honors.

Dreikosen (Grafton, Wis.) helped lead Marian to a Great Lakes Bowling Conference (GLBC) Championship and was named the Player of the Year for the conference.  He averaged 224.6 pins in the final event of the season to finish second as an individual.  Dreikosen would score higher than 200 pins in four of the five games with a high game of 244.  This gave Dreikosen a 221.1 average for the GLBC season to put him atop the conference.  Dreikosen is the first GLBC Player of the Year in Marian men’s bowling history.

Kolpitcke (Powell, Wyo.) became the first Sabre in the women’s ice hockey program to earn multiple All-NCHA awards after another dominating season.  Her Sabre women’s ice hockey career came to an end with a 1.49 goals-against average over the final six games of the season with 202 saves and a .957 save percentage.  She would set single season Marian records with her 1.70 goals-against average and .957 save percentage.  Kolpitcke is the first Sabre goaltender to ever have a goals-against average below 2.00 and a save percentage higher than .935.  Her .957 save percentage on the season led the NCHA and ranks third in the entire nation.  The transition to spring saw her also have a strong start to the lacrosse season.  Kolpitcke earned a NACC Defensive Player of the Week award in large part due to a performance against Hendrix that saw her grab 12 ground balls and cause five turnovers.  She also reached the 100 ground balls plateau in that game against the Warriors.

Marian women’s lacrosse hits the West Coast this weekend opening with Cal Lutheran Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. (CST).  The Sabre men’s bowling team travels to the USBC Sectionals March 8-10 at Stardust Lanes in Addison, Ill.
