Dreifuerst, Wills named to CSC Academic All-District

Junior Isaac Dreifuerst and senior Derek Wills of Marian University men’s volleyball have each been named to the Academic All-District Team by College Sports Communicators (CSC).

The CSC Academic All-American program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their efforts both in competition and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must compete in 90 percent of their team’s games, be a key starter or reserve on their team, and attain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5. They must also hold at least sophomore standing at their institution.

Dreifuerst (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had a breakout season to earn his first selection to the CSC Academic All-District squad. He would play in 80 sets over 23 matches recording 266.0 points, 3.33 points per set, and ranked second on the team with 235 kills, and third on the squad with 2.94 kills per set. Dreifuerst had double-digit kills in 11 matches including the final three matches of the season. He posted a season-high 19 kills against Fontbonne and Thiel in a pair of four-set wins for Marian. Dreifuerst would also narrowly missed a double-double against Aurora where he had 14 kills to go with nine digs. At the net, he had multiple blocks in 11 matches finishing the season with 38 total blocks. Dreifuerst closed out the campaign with multiple solo blocks at Illinois Tech.

Wills (Dubuque, Iowa) earns his second CSC Academic All-District award after being named All-NACC for the fourth time. Wills had one of the best years of his Sabre career ranking third in the NACC with 3.66 kills per set and fifth in the conference with 3.95 points per set. He posted double-digit kills in 19 matches during the regular season including a career-high 25-kill performance at home against Aurora. Wills was also a useful weapon for the Sabres in the back row ranking ninth in the NACC for digs per set at 2.33. He would post eight dobule-doubles during the regular season and had a season-high 14 digs in three separate matches. One of those matches came in the five-set match at home against Aurora. Wills became just the second Sabre in program history to reach 1,000 kills for a career during the season.
