Di Vito leads Marian softball to sweep of Lawrence

 Junior Sabrina Di Vito struck out a career-high 10 batters in game one to lead Marian University softball (20-18, 15-9 NACC) to a regular-season ending sweep of Lawrence, winning 3-1 and 5-2.

GAME 1 

  • Di Vito came out firing, striking out the first six batters she faced.
  • Marian jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, as senior Ariana Schliepp drove in a run and senior Hope Matta scored on a sacrifice fly. 
  • Lawrence got one on the board in the third, but Marian answered as Matta scored her second run of the game on a single by sophomore Macey Pease.
  • Di Vito struck out two more in the fifth as neither team recorded a hit for the remainder of the contest. 
  • No Vikings reached base after the third inning, and Marian went on to secure a 3-1 win. 

GAME 2 

  • Marian scored two runs in the first, as Matta drove in a run on a triple and later scored in the inning. 
  • Lawrence tied it in the fourth with two runs on three hits, including two doubles.
  • The Sabres recorded a hit in each of the next two innings, advancing junior Savanna Knuth to third, but couldn’t bring her home. 
  • The sixth inning proved crucial for the Sabres, as they tacked on three runs, including a two-run double by junior Mackenzie Christofferson, to take a 5-2 lead.
  • All three Lawrence batters grounded out in the seventh, as Marian completed the sweep.

  • The Sabres outhit Lawrence, 3-2.
  • Di Vito pitched another complete game, evening her record at 8-8.
  • Lawrence committed one error, while Marian played error-free.
  • Di Vito’s 10 strikeouts are the most by a Marian pitcher since Emalee Depa also recorded 10 in 2022. 

GAME 2

  • Marian outhit the Vikings, 7-3, with all three Lawrence hits coming in the fourth inning.
  • Neither team committed an error.
  • No Lawrence batter collected more than one hit on the day.
  • Marian enters the NACC Tournament having won six of its last eight games.
  • The Sabres lead the all-time series against the Vikings, 15-7, having won the last five meetings.
