Day on the Farm Provides Agriculture Education

The annual Day on the Farm was hosted by the Lomira FFA on Wednesday, May 15 at Michels Farm with the help of the agriculture department of Envision Greater Fond du Lac. Kindergarten and 1st grade students from 11 schools had the opportunity to experience agriculture first-hand through interactive stations. Over 750 students, teachers and chaperones were in attendance to explore the dairy farm. Seven stations consisted of getting up close with small animals and dairy calves, taking a hay ride around the farm, planting a flower, learning the difference between dairy and non-dairy products, watching a milking demonstration and being able to climb onto farming equipment.

Most students aren’t able to experience agriculture so closely; giving the students the opportunity to participate in Day on the Farm gives them the knowledge to help them understand what goes into the agriculture industry.

The Michels have hosted this event for many years now. Each year they host, the whole Michels family comes to support the Lomira FFA and area students. With the help from volunteers and sponsors, Day on the Farm continues to be a memorable experience for the students.
