Daugherty announced as head coach for Marian men’s lacrosse

James Daugherty has been announced as the sixth head coach of the Marian University men’s lacrosse program.

Daugherty brings with him a wealth of NCAA Division III experience having served in a coaching role at the Division III ranks since 2018.  Most recently, he served as an assistant coach at Elizabethtown College for the past two seasons.  During his time he had a heavy emphasis in recruiting, strategic planning, and player development.  In both seasons of his tenure the Blue Jays finished atop the Landmark Conference regular-season standings and reached the championship game of the conference tournament.  The Blue Jays also tied a program record with eight all-conference selections in both campaigns.

“I would like to thank President Aaron Sadoff, Director of Athletics Tony Draves, and the entire Marian community for this amazing opportunity,” said Daugherty.  “I am beyond excited to be joining Marian University and start this new journey.  We will do everything in our power to develop our young men on and off the field and make this university, along with our alumni, proud to be associated with our program.”

Prior to Elizabethtown, Daugherty served as an assistant coach at Washington and Lee and Arcadia University for a season each.  Between those two seasons 15 student-athletes would earn all-conference honors including the Rookie of the Year at Arcadia in the 2021 season.  He also played a key role in scouting opponents along with recruiting.

He began coaching at the NCAA Division III level at Widener University as a graduate assistant where he began to pursue a master’s degree in public administration.  Daugherty started his overall coaching career in 2017 serving as a volunteer assistant coach at the Virginia Military Institute, NCAA Division I.

Daugherty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2017.
