Cougars rally to defeat Sabre women’s basketball

Marian University women’s basketball (4-15, 2-8 NACC) had a lead heading into the fourth quarter but was defeated by Concordia Chicago 67-58.

  • The game opened with a 10-10 draw before Concordia Chicago finished the opening quarter with an 8-2 run to lead by six.
  • That momentum carried into the second quarter as the Cougars scored the first five points of the stanza to lead 23-12.
  • CUC led by as many as 13 points but Marian was able to chip away and only trailed 33-26 going into halftime.
  • The Sabres immediately got back into the game opening the second half with a 7-2 spurt to only trail by two.
  • A strong finish to the quarter saw Marian score the final three points to take a 40-39 lead into the final 10 minutes.
  • The two squads traded the lead in the opening half of the final quarter with Marian leading 49-48 and 5:14 on the clock.
  • Concordia Chicago was then able to pull away scoring 10 unanswered points.
  • This proved to be the difference as the Cougars maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.

  • Marian went 18-of-54 (.333) from the field and just 2-of-18 (.111) from beyond the arc.
  • Concordia Chicago finished 23-of-55 (.418) and 9-of-22 (.409) from beyond the arc.
  • The game was tied 14 different times and the lead changed on 22 occasions.
  • The Sabres had 13 offensive boards and outscored CUC 12-8 in second chance points.
  • Marian also finished with a 28-22 advantage for points in the paint.
  • The Sabres fall to 9-19 all-time against Concordia Chicago with the Cougars taking three of the last four meetings.

Senior Lexi Brakebush added 15 points for her ninth straight game with double-digit points.
Junior Chelsea King scored eight points and had four rebounds.
