Comeback win over Oshkosh highlights two-game sweep for Marian flag football

Marian University women’s flag football (5-3) soared to a pair of wins over Rockford and UW-Oshkosh.

ROCKFORD (W, 27-0)

  • Marian opened the scoring as freshman Holly Goodwin connected with freshman Kendall Graves for a touchdown. The duo linked up for three scores on the day. 
  • In the second quarter, Goodwin hit sophomore Emily Eastham for a 33-yard touchdown, giving the Sabres a 13-0 lead. 
  • Goodwin stayed hot before halftime, tossing her third touchdown of the game to sophomore Daniela Chaname to make it 19-0. 
  • Rockford opened the second half with a promising drive before Chaname came away with an interception
  • Junior Raegan Montello’s pressure forced a safety for the Sabres, who shut out the Regents. 
  • Graves hauled in her second touchdown of the game on a six-yard reception from Goodwin, as Marian secured a 27-0 win heading into game two. 

UW-OSHKOSH (W, 27-14)

  • Goodwin broke free for a 19-yard touchdown run to get the Sabres rolling. Freshman Anna Riley added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. 
  • Coming off their first win in program history, the Titans responded with 14 unanswered points to take a halftime lead. 
  • Marian marched down the field to open the second half, but Chaname was stopped on fourth down at the one-yard line, resulting in a turnover on downs. 
  • Backed up in their own end zone, Oshkosh running back Kyana Williams was tackled by sophomore Nyedeng Awak for a safety. 
  • The Sabres took their first lead of the second half on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Goodwin to Graves.
  • On the following Marian drive, Chaname put multiple Titan defenders in a spin cycle en route to a 12-yard touchdown run. 
  • Goodwin sealed the comeback win with a 30-yard pick-six, capping off a 20-point fourth quarter for the Sabres.

ROCKFORD

  • Marian limited the Regents to just 115 yards of total offense and 3.3 yards per play.
  • Three Sabres caught passes of 25 yards or more, including Eastham, who hauled in two deep shots over 30 yards. 
  • Marian punted just once in the win.
  • The Sabres converted four of six fourth downs, while holding the Regents to 0-of-2 on fourth down and 2-of-8 on third downs. 

UW-OSHKOSH

  • Three Sabres intercepted Titan passes, returning them for 52 combined yards, including one returned for a touchdown by Goodwin. 
  • Marian averaged 9.8 yards per completion.
  • UW-Oshkosh’s Paige Vitek recorded 15 tackles and an interception in the loss. 
  • Both teams combined for just 1-of-9 on fourth down conversions.

Freshman Holly Goodwin had a flawless game against Rockford, completing 14-of-19 passes for 184 yards and four touchdowns. 
Freshman Kendall Graves totaled three touchdown receptions on the day and recorded an interception in each game.
Sophomore Daniela Chaname was everywhere, totaling two touchdowns, 70 rushing yards, 54 receiving yards, two tackles for loss, and an interception in two games.
